Site description

Highly visible mound on the southern edge of the Qa Shubayqa, near the outflow of the Wadi Rajil, locally known as Kaef al Kaelp ("The Paw of the Dog"). Multiperiod occupation: particularly rich in inscriptions and rock art; with dense lithic scatter(s) across the entire mound. Intensively surveyed in 2014 and 2015.

Interpretation: A 20,000-year picnic spot.

Huge cairn with possible more cairns incorporated. The cairn has been looted several places and lithics has been scattered around the "pits". Three "pits" has been looted. 15.50 x 16.50 m. The site "hand of the dog". The cairn mound streches the "highest", with inscriptions, animal depiction and rock art drawn on stones around the mound.

Large cairn further down from (01), with a long wall that runs on both sides of cairn. On the top of the cairn are small gravel rocks, so this could indicate that this has not been looted. 7.40 x 9.60 m cairn. 28.20m width arms 5-6 courses of rock high. Also has three tribal marks to the east, on the top of the burial.

Safaitic inscription with a large drawing of to the East. The inscription running down on the western side. Pecked into the rock, thick lines. Yellow colour Drawing looks like a cross between the mad hatter and the grinning cat.

oval struc. Composed of a c. 50 cm broad wall (possible double rowed) the struc. Is c. 4x3 m. and the southern end of the wall is 3 stones/c. 50 cm high. The rest of the wall is collapsed so that only one layer of the stones remain. There is a smaller circular struc. Within this one. Some of the stones have scratch marks and inscriptions on them and a large amount of flint tools have been found within the struc. And in the surrounding area
